Daytime date ideas in Nashville while the kids are at school

Short answer: the easiest Nashville daytime dates for parents fit inside school or daycare hours: a Lebanese lunch at Epice plus ice cream on 12 South, the Frist Art Museum and a downtown lunch at Etch, a whiskey tour and lunch at Nelson's Green Brier Distillery, the gardens at Cheekwood Estate & Gardens, a walk around Radnor Lake State Park, or The Parthenon & Centennial Park in Centennial Park. No sitter, no bedtime clock, and you're back for pickup.

Night dates are great. But if you're both wiped by 8 PM, a weekday lunch date while the kids are already covered is the cheat code. Take a half day, or stack it on a day off, and treat it like a real date: book it, put it on both calendars, and don't run errands on the way.

How to time a school-hours date

| When | What | |---|---| | Drop-off | Kids in, phones on loud for the school | | Drop-off + 30 min | Drive and park | | Next 3 hours | One activity plus lunch | | Last 30–45 min | Drive back with buffer for pickup |

Three hours of actual date is plenty. Our 3-hour babysitter window guide uses the same math for nights.

1. Lebanese lunch and ice cream on 12 South

Epice serves lunch from 11 AM (last seating 4 PM) every day except Monday, with pita-wrapped sandwiches at lunch and brunch on weekends. Afterward, walk to Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams (12 South), which opens at noon Monday through Thursday and 11 AM Friday through Sunday.

2. Art museum and a downtown lunch

The Frist Art Museum is open Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10 AM to 5:30 PM (closed Tuesday and Wednesday). Adult admission is $20 (as of November 2026), and museum parking is $3 an hour with validation for up to 3 hours. Then drive over to Etch on Demonbreun for lunch, served Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM. Valet is $5 at lunch (as of November 2026).

3. Whiskey tour and lunch in Marathon Village

Nelson's Green Brier Distillery runs guided tours with a four-whiskey flight daily from 11 AM (to 5 PM Sunday through Thursday, 6 PM Friday and Saturday). The tour takes 45 minutes to an hour and costs $25 per adult 21+, or $20 for non-drinkers (as of November 2026). The restaurant serves lunch Wednesday through Saturday from 11:30 AM.

4. Cheekwood gardens on a weekday morning

Cheekwood Estate & Gardens runs holiday daytime hours from Nov 3, 2026 to Jan 29, 2027: Tuesday through Sunday, 9 AM to 3:30 PM. Adult tickets run $20–26 for gardens only or $26–29 with the mansion (as of November 2026; price varies by day), plus a parking fee for non-members. During the Holiday LIGHTS season there's a docent-led mansion tour Tuesday through Sunday at 11:15 AM. Grab lunch at the café on site.

5. A real walk and talk at Radnor Lake

Radnor Lake State Park is open every day from 6 AM to 20 minutes after sunset. Walk the lake loop, actually finish a conversation, then go get lunch. Parking is only in marked spaces and fills up fast on nice days, so go mid-morning on a weekday. Leave the dog home: pets are only allowed on Otter Creek Road, Hall Drive and the dam.

6. The Parthenon and Centennial Park

The Parthenon & Centennial Park is open Monday through Wednesday and Friday through Saturday from 9 AM to 4:30 PM, Thursday 9 AM to noon, and Sunday 12:30 to 4:30 PM. Adult admission is $15 (as of November 2026), sold only on site. Walk the park after.

7. Climb something together

The Climb (Nashville West / Nashville East) has gyms in West and East Nashville. A day pass with rental gear is $26, or $22 on your first visit (as of November 2026), and it includes a belay lesson. It's a good date if you like a little friendly competition. Then go eat.
