Whiskey Sour

Bright, tart and a little sweet. Three ingredients and a hard shake.

Glass
Rocks glass
Tools
Cocktail shaker (or a jar with a tight lid), Jigger, Strainer
Garnish
Lemon wheel or a cocktail cherry

Ingredients

Steps

  1. Add bourbon, lemon juice and simple syrup to a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake hard for 10–15 seconds.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
  4. Garnish with a lemon wheel or cherry.

Optional: add one egg white and shake without ice first for a foamy top. Raw egg isn't for everyone; skip it if you're unsure.

Make it a mocktail: Tea Sour

Swap the bourbon for 2 oz (60 ml) strong-brewed, cooled black tea. Same lemon and syrup, same hard shake.

Batch for two

For two: 4 oz (120 ml) bourbon, 1.5 oz (45 ml) lemon, 1.5 oz (45 ml) syrup. One big shake, split between two glasses.

Pair it with an at-home date
