Ingredients

Steps

  1. Add whiskey, simple syrup and bitters to a mixing glass with ice.
  2. Stir for about 20 seconds until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube.
  4. Squeeze the orange peel over the drink, rub it on the rim and drop it in.

Make it a mocktail: Smoky Tea Old Fashioned

Swap the whiskey for 2 oz (60 ml) strong-brewed, cooled black tea (lapsang souchong if you have it) and use non-alcoholic bitters, since regular Angostura contains alcohol. Keep the syrup and orange peel.

Batch for two

For two: 4 oz (120 ml) whiskey, 1/2 oz (15 ml) syrup, 4 dashes bitters. Stir in one mixing glass and split between two glasses.

Pair it with an at-home date
