Gold Rush
Bourbon, fresh lemon, and honey syrup. Shake it, strain it over one big cube, and sit down with your husband or your wife after the kids are in bed.
Ingredients
- 2 oz (60 ml) Bourbon
- 3/4 oz (22.5 ml) Fresh lemon juice
- 3/4 oz (22.5 ml) Honey syrup (equal parts honey and hot water, cooled)
Steps
- Honey syrup: stir equal parts honey and hot water until the honey dissolves, then let it cool. A jam jar is the right tool. It keeps for a week in the fridge.
- Add the bourbon, fresh lemon juice, and honey syrup to a shaker with ice.
- Shake hard for about 12 seconds.
- Strain over one big cube.
Everything here is in a normal grocery run: bourbon, lemons, honey. If the cube is just a tray cube, use two. The point is a cold drink that doesn't water down before you've had a conversation.
Make it a mocktail: Honey Lemon Cooler
Skip the bourbon. Shake 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lemon juice and 3/4 oz (22.5 ml) honey syrup with ice, strain over a big cube, and top with 2 oz (60 ml) club soda.
Batch for two
For two: 4 oz (120 ml) bourbon, 1 1/2 oz (45 ml) lemon, 1 1/2 oz (45 ml) honey syrup. Shake in two rounds if the jar is small, and give each glass its own big cube.
Pair it with an at-home date
